08 Jan La Luncheonette is a Family Affair
We were downtown today and couldn’t resist stopping by the brand new community eatery La Luncheonette. I heard about the cafe on Facebook from a networking contact who was very proud that her niece had opened her own business.
Mackenzie Snow studied at culinary school and has diverse experience as a professional chef. She has partnered with her sister-in-law Jesika Starnino to create a community hub for neighbours, friends and students to get together and enjoy a great hearty home-made meal at a fair price.
At La Luncheonette their goal is to share the best of their family’s recipes. We tested the decadent Charlie Bars and especially liked Mackenzie’s mom’s famous Rum Cake which was moist and delicious.
We enjoyed their freshly made sandwiches, soup and salad. The menu depends on availability of fresh products. Everything was delicious. Customers are obviously impressed, as the ladies are already receiving catering orders in their first week!
Le Sud Ouest: Pulled Pork on an onion bun.
Grilled Veggie sandwich on rye bread.
Veggie-meister sandwich with cream of leek soup.
The cafe is spacious and bright. It is a steps away from Place St. Henri metro station and has a seasonal garden terrace. I asked Mackenzie about hosting live music events and she pointed to the piano in the back indicating it was a distinct possibility! Needless to say, we’ll be returning to this neighbourhood spot. I already have my eye on the Mitchell (grilled cheese sandwich with caramelized onions).
One can sense La Luncheonette is a family affair with open arms to the community. With so much heart going into their business, it is sure to be a great success!
